Pandemic Preparedness with qPCR Automated Detection in Taiwan

2020/7/27

National Taiwan University College of Medicine, the most prestigious comprehensive university in Taiwan, has published, on Nature Biotechnology, an article about QVS-96, a fully automated detection system developed by TCI GENE, a subsidiary of TCI Co., Ltd., to shorten the turnaround time of qPCR testing and help solve the increasing loads of COVID-19 testing.

qPCR, or RT-PCR, with an accuracy of 99.99%, is used by the official epidemic prevention organizations of countries worldwide and generally recognized as the most reliable way for SARS-CoV-2 testing while the testing process is labor-intensive and time-consuming. Responding to the surging demand for testing that cannot be satisfied by traditional qPCR, TCI GENE, has successfully developed QVS-96; by speeding up the nucleic acid extraction and reagent dispensing processes with robot arms, the fully automated detection integration system allows a turnaround time of qPCR 10 times faster than the original testing process. Moreover, the advanced version QVS-96S, which has just been officially certified as a medical device, with the testing capacity equivalent to that of 20 testing institutions, is able to handle up to 2,016 specimens per day, effectively solving the risk of human errors and lack of labor.

U.S. FDA calls international attention to Taiwan’s innovative testing technology published on Nature Biotechnology

So far, QVS-96 has been registered with U.S. FDA and can be legally sold in the U.S. as well as other countries that recognize FDA certification. Following the publication of the article about the detection system on Nature Biotechnology, a report on QVS-96 has been launched on the official FDA website, witnessing Taiwan's significant accomplishment in professional epidemic prevention technology. It is expected that the fully automated detection integration system, enabling high-speed and high-accuracy testing, can be installed in major airports around the world for on-site tests to support epidemic prevention and help restore the global economy.
